Temple Day 2012

Yesterday was perfect. I couldn't have been more prepared for receiving my endowment. I'm thankful for the people who made me a priority yesterday and attended. Not too many deets on this one, as they were personal, but as always, here are some pictures.

Thanksgiving 2012

My family is traditionally nontraditional. While most families spend time with their extended family on Thanksgiving, mine does whatever it can to not participate. So, we go on vacations during Thanksgiving most years. This year we spent Thanksgiving in Vegas.I swear Vegas is my family's one spot we go to more frequently for holidays than most people. We just love it. And Vegas has some of the best shopping ever.

It was fun to be with the fam bam. Well, the three girls with Jeff and Elaine. Jeff and I rode the New York roller coaster at New York New York. We shopped a lot (think a trunk load because of Black Friday sales), visited Bonnie springs and some other springy area, Jeff gave everyone shoulder rides, we saw the place where J&E used to live, walked around a lot, ate at a buffet for Thanksgiving dinner.

(self explanatory)

I love my family. I'm thankful for them everyday and am so lucky they're in my life for-ev-er.

Louisville Vacation

Wanna know what happens when you're 24 and single? You take vacations with your parents and actually enjoy them. Gone are the days where you dread spending time with them. No longer having to sit in a torture chamber (a mini-van) for 12 hours driving somewhere. Now it's a quick flight to some place you've never been before. It's all exciting and new.

I was able to go with my Dad to Louisville, Kentucky. What's there you ask? Plenty. Well, actually Jeff had a conference he had to attend and I got to go with him. It was fun.  We flew into Louisville on Sunday night, after a 4 hour delay in the Minneapolis airport we made it. We thought we were going to be able to make it in early and had planned some things to do but we got in late and just wandered around 4th street LIVE! until it got too cold. The next morning I caught up on sleep while Jeff went to his meetings. He got back around 5 or so and we decided to drive to Cincinnati. When we got there everything was closed. It was only 7:30-ish! Come on peeps! But we found a nice place to have some hot chocolate. Starbucks. :)

On Tuesday morning, I got up early and walked to the Muhammid Ali Center and went to the museum by myself. I walked around downtown Louisville, just to scope out what was there. There are some cool buildings and lots of statues. I went to a visitor's center that they had down there and they had loads of KFC stuff in there. I did some more wandering until I was tired of walking and then I went back to the hotel and waited for Jeff to get done with his meeting. When he came back we decided to go see Churchill Downs (where they do the Kentucky Derby) but it was closed. Surprise, surprise. Everything in Kentucky closed early.  It was time for dinner and Jeff had been talking about this thing called a "hot brown" and how we needed to have one because they're a local food. So I googled it and found a restaurant that serves em. It was at a place called Lynn's Paradise Cafe. The place itself was awesome! It looked like a house that belonged to Pee Wee Herman. But it was seriously awesome. And the food thing was great! I want to learn how to make one!  Then, my favorite thing happened. We went on a ghost tour of old Louisville. We walked around the city for about an hour and a half and our tour guide told us ghost stories from certain buildings. It was really fun. And really cold.

The next day Jeff only had a half day because we were leaving that day. So we went to the Louisville Slugger museum and then went to University of Louisville's campus. Then on to the plane where we didn't think we'd make it because all the other flights out of Louisville to Atlanta hadn't even left the whole day. Ours "left" on time but then we sat on the tar mat for 45 minutes. Grr. That then made it so we had to run off the plane once we landed int Atlanta, switch concourses and board our plane. Seriously, we barely made it. We made it back to SLC around 9:30pm.

I love to travel and go places, but there is no place like home. :)

Dinner. Haunted House. Pumpkins.

In my family we're either very brief or long winded. This morning I'll be brief.

I made dinner last night for friends and family. We made a haunted house and carved pumpkins.

Somethings never get old...

Do you know what never gets old? My awful dating life.

I just realized that I hadn't blogged about one of my dates from the summer. And I have ample time this morning to fill you in on this story.

I went on a date with a boy from high school. He's a year older than me and we had physics together my junior year. I hadn't seen him since then either. He reconnected with on Facebook and Instagram and finally mustered up some courage and asked me out. I said yes. Homeboy asked if I wanted to ride on his motorcycle to our destination, and I've ridden on motorcycles before and loved it, so I said yes!

Here comes the first problem: HE had ME to drive to his house in order to ride the motorcycle. I said  I would (I also like an easy escape if things turn south). So I arrive at his house and he's workin' on the bike and trying to get some speaker system to work in the helmets. As an aside, before our actual date he asked me to bring ear buds, I thought he meant something to muffle the noise of the motorcycle, but this ain't my first rodeo so I didn't bring any. I was dressed all cute and had my hair done nicely, ready to have a fun night. Fun is not exactly what followed. What happened is this: he handed me a leather jacket (it's the middle of July and definitely at 95+ that day) and a helmet, which  I gladly wore. The jacket was for protection just in case we had any accidents. Umm, what? Yeah, accidents. So was the helmet, I guess. He then asks if I brought the ear buds and I said no, I didn't need them and he said yes you do they're for our speaker system in the helmets. He found an extra pair and plugged in our ear buds to the microphone type thing so we could test them out. It didn't work. Well, it did. But it was really muffled so I couldn't hear anything. He was trying to tell me the rules of riding. I couldn't understand a thing he was saying so I said I'm taking my helmet off so I can hear what you're telling me.

The rules of riding with him are:
1. Don't hold on to me.
2. Lean into the direction of the bike when turning.
3. When coming to a stop, squeeze your legs behind me so you don't ram me up the bike.
4. Don't make me ram into the middle of the bike.

Really crappy rules, huh? This kids bike is like the bullets bike younger brother who still hasn't figured anything out. Have you ever tried to ride with two people on a bullet bike on the freeway, not holding on, squeezing your legs? Just visualize that awful mess for a minute. Yeah, it's as bad as it sounds.

We get onto the freeway and he tries to make conversation with me through the helmet speaker things and I can't understand him. I'm trying so hard but I couldn't. So I told him that I couldn't understand and we ride all the way up to the natural history museum by the U in silence. The whole time I was thinking, shiz. What if we fall of this thing? I don't think I can do this. I'd grab onto him and he'd wiggle away from me. Or try and shake me off. It was weird.

We finally reach the museum and I take of the leather jacket and I'm sweating buckets. It's hot! I no longer look cute. My hair is a hot mess, I'm sopping wet, and now we have to try and make chit chat. At the museum he hands the ticket person his military ID, and says to me, yeah we went here because it's free for me. I'm thinking, wow. Awesome. So throughout the experience of the museum, I'd try and make light chit chat, but nothing. He wouldn't engage with me. He'd ask about Sarah or the fam and I'd start responding and he'd say, well, anyway....

Right before we headed home, he made two phone calls: one to his friend who had a birthday, one to his other group of friends saying he just was doing something right now but he'd be able to make the party at 9. Ugh! We get on the motorcycle, with no holding, and only leg squeezing allowed we get on the freeway. Right about now my anxiety sets in. What if we crash? We if I fall off the back? What's going to happen? I'm pretty sure he turned off our headset things so to keep myself distracted I started singing hymns and primary songs. It worked. We made it home. I say see ya later! And his response is, I hope I don't make the blog (he knew that I blog about bad dates). I was thinking, you're making it, don't worry.

Anyway, I don't hear from him for a few weeks. The next time I do, he asks if I had written on the blog yet. I said no. He then says, hey you know you're paralyzed friend, I think I have a crush on her. Could you set me up?

'nuff said, right?

I'm at the point where dates are becoming another thing for me to blog about. They're bad. They're funny. And everyone can enjoy my pain. But at least I made it out alive with this one. :)

Crimson Trail

We first heard about this hike from General Conference, April 2011 when one of the Seventy, Paul V. Johnson said:

"The Crimson Trail in Logan Canyon is one of my favorite hikes. The main part of the trail creeps along the top of tall limestone cliffs and offers beautiful vistas of the canyon and valley below. Getting to the top of the cliffs isn't easy, however. The trail there is a constant climb; and just before reaching the top, the climber encounters the steepest part of the trail; and views of the canyon are hidden by the cliffs themselves. The final exertion is more than worth the effort because once the climber is on top, the views are breathtaking. The only way to see the views is to make the climb."

The trail was especially hard for me. I've been on a ton of medicine the last year, and the last 3 months I've been on Accutane. It makes my muscles and joints hurt to the point where even sitting begins to hurt. I haven't been able to be active (hence the weight gain) but I really, really wanted to do this hike. There are two ways to get up to the top: take the side that goes straight up or do the gradual climb side. We chose the straight up side. We had been hiking for a little while and getting nearer to the top but every step was becoming so hard for me. I kept asking Jeff if we really were near the top. He would say yes, but before we get to the top it actually gets harder. There came a point in the hike that I thought if this really isn't right here then I'll go back down by myself and wait for them. My body was exhausted, it was beginning to hurt to walk and put pressure on my feet.

And then, one more climb up and we were there. It was amazing. It was breath taking. IT was worth it. On our way back down the easy side of the mountain, I just kept thinking that the hike was a metaphor for life's trials. Before anything becomes easy, it gets really hard. But in the end, it's definitely worth it.

So, if you're ever up for a hike that will push your limits, then this is the one I will always recommend.

Memorial Day Weekend

Something our family tries to do every year is go up to Virginia City Montana. It's an old ghost town which is more recently like a touristy place. It's still fun though! We go up and ride horses, eat ice cream, go to the candy shoppe, walk up and down the board walk. It's just a lot of fun! We went again this year and it was just as great as I remember! Mom and Sarah couldn't go so we invited one of my really good friends Liz Jackson. I've known her for 10 years! We met at EFY when we were 14. Fun, huh? So here are the photos from this weekend! Enjoy!

My family is super duper cool and that's all you need to know.

The Trip from Down Undah and More

I know I've been home almost a month from the greatest vacation ever. And every time I see someone they ask me about it. My usual answer is, it was fun. Probably not the answer anyone is looking for. They're probably looking for something more in depth, but doesn't take 30 minutes to explain. So, for those of you who follow my blog, here is my trip in 12 pictures. :)

1. Billabong Koala Zoo.
2. Me petting a koala.
3. Sydney Opera House picture (sadly it was closed).
4. Baldwin Street in Dunedin, NZ. The steepest street in the world. We drove the car up and down it.
5. Beautiful NZ country side. If you look hard enough you'll see sheep.
6. And I had to get my picture with a red telephone booth because I'm a  tourist.

7. Lanarch's Castle in Dunedine, NZ.
8. (a duplicate of a picture in the previous collage).
9. We went on a tour of the Cadbury chocolate factory!
10. Cadbury!
11. Went to the Skytower with these ladies.
12. At the over look of Auckland called One Tree Hill.

And there we have it. My vacation Down Undah.

Summer Ketchup

The past two summers, I couldn't wait for August to come. It meant seeing my family, going home, starting normal life again. It seemed to drag. This summer has gone by way too fast. Just slow down already. I leave for Australia/New Zealand in two weeks-ish. Isn't that crazy? I'm excited for that adventure! Although, I'm kind of nervous for the flight. I've never flown for that long before so it's definitely going to be an experience.

I've been working like a crazy person. I still work at Victoria's Secret. It's definitely been fun but it makes me realize that my education is important and I wouldn't want to make it a career. I know I need to start about putting in my two weeks notice, but that's always scary. I never know what to say. But I'm confident that I'll figure it out. :)

Next thing: dating. I've been on three dates with two different boys. The first one is named Ben. He picked me up and we went to dinner at the Cheesecake Factory in City Creek. We just talked and caught up on how each others summers have been going. He is actually really fun to talk to about anything. After dinner we went back to his house and watched 30 Rock and then he let me borrow three books. I've been trying to read them but it seems like I can't get through the first one. Maybe I'll do that later tonight.

The last two dates have been with a boy named Stan. He is also fun. Date one we went four wheeling. He let me drive it some of the way up (I wasn't too good at the whole gas/clutch/changing gears thing). And then I drove it all the way down. We went on another date just this past weekend. We went to dinner at a place called Moore's Family Restaurant. I had a grilled cheese. Then we went back to his friends parent's house and watched 21JumpStreet. It was freakin' hilarious. I can't think of any of the one liners from the movie, but they were funny.

I've lost like 5 pounds this summer. Not that great. But hey, I'm workin' with it. My next problem is that I now have a stress fracture in my right foot. It hurts. Bad. So I'm in a boot for the next couple of weeks which will most definitely put a cramp in my style in the workout department. I decided I'm still going to go to the gym though and just ride the bike. Like all hard core. It's still going to be a tough workout (I hope).

Anyway, that's about it for now. I hope everyone is having a great summer!

Much love. Peace and blessins.

I Shouldn't Date...

I always say this. I usually mean it. It just seems that every time I go on a date some catastrophe happens. I decided to go on a date this last weekend and just like clock work, something happened. We went to Utah Lake to have a nice time in a peddle boat. I went with a boy from high school, Jimmy Neville and two other kids from high school- Samuel Josie and Nicole Greaves. Nicole and I peddled the boat out to the buoys and then the boys decided they wanted a turn. That's when things started getting bad. The waves started getting more intense and the little peddle boat couldn't take it. It started taking in water fast. So we got it to the closest shore and were able to lift it up out of the water and onto dry land and dump the water out. We took it to the other side where it looked less calm.
We got about 20 feet away from the shore when we realized the thing underneath that makes it possible to go anywhere was broken (or having problems) due to the fact that it had been mangled in our attempt to get it to shore. Nevertheless, we tried to peddle. We even switched back to having the girls peddle the boat because we were better. But this time, tragedy struck. The boat started sinking. All four of us weren't going to make it out not soaking wet. I was the only one who said we needed to do something so I jumped out and tried to push/pull/paddle the boat to the closest shore. Sam got out and tried helping. We tried in earnest for about a good 40 minutes to an hour. Finally, helped arrived in the form of two separate strangers. One group took the boat, Jimmy and Nicole and towed them to the shore. The second group of people told me and Sam to swim to their boat and they'd take us to shore. I was dead tired.
On the car ride home, the boys asked if we wanted to go to dinner and a movie. I opted out. I was in soaking wet clothes that were wet from Utah Lake water. Gross. I was still cold for hours after I got home. Brrr. I know that one day I'll be able to look back at these dates (memories) and laugh, but  for now I'm thinking, ugh. I should probably just stick to dinner and a movie type of dates where nothing can go wrong.

And if you know me, you know I always bring my camera everywhere. Even on disaster dates. So my lovelies, enjoy.

The Girls of 10B

I know I complain about how people with cameras think they are photographers. I still believe that. With that disclaimer, I took Bridget and her roommates pictures today. I also just edited them and I must say, wow. They're total babes. I had such a fun time. Here are some of my favorites from their little photo shoot.

Seriously, this was a lot of fun. I was horrible at directing them as to what they should be doing, but they were great to work with. They put up with my crazy jumbled thoughts. Thanks to Bridget for using her  camera. It was fun!

VS

Well folks. I did it. I applied for the job I want this summer and got it. I couldn't be more happy! I love Victoria's Secret and I hope my experience there will be just as great as I think it will be.
I love their PINK line and would wear those outfits every day if I the choice (and the money to afford it).

So everyone should come see me this summer and say hello. And buy bras. Or whatever you want.

April 24, 2012

GC

Okay, peeps. It's been almost a month since GC and I want to know what your favorite talk was during conference. I didn't watch (note: I slept through some (most) of it) and want to read the talks. I was able to listen to the one by Elder Holland and it was the favorite of the ones I was able to watch. Now I want to read some more. Let me know!

Little Things

Things I am excited about this summer:
Rain
Being home
Laying out on the lawn
Mowing the grass
Pool time
Road trips
New friends
Finishing lost
Getting tan
Working out
Preparing for the tough mudder
Working
Boating
Church
Family

I just want to be done with school and get to these things. Is that too much to ask for?

Yucky

I'm here at work until 2 am. :( Worst choice of my life. I hate staying up late. It's the worst. So why did I pick up this shift. I can't seem to remember. Probably because I was hard up for some money last time I picked up shifts. And now with this tax return, as long as I work my normal hours I'll be fine on the money side of things. But now I'm stuck.

I decided what to buy with my money from my tax return. The complete 10 seasons of Friends. I am putting the rest of my money towards rent, car payment and credit card. Only one indulgence. AND I just bought it online. Yay! So it's a done deal. I will be the owner of all the seasons in 3-5 business days.

I am also going to start watching Lost this weekend. My brother said it's super good and talked about it the whole time we were in Hawaii. And then he was telling me about it the other day at work, so I've decided that I'll give it a go. I've heard it's addicting. Anyway, that's about all my ramblings for now.

Tax Time

So.
Mom did my taxes last night. I'm getting back a whopping $1,737. I have never gotten that much back. Ever. I am so excited.
Here is how I plan on spending that money:
Rent
Car payment
Credit card
Lap top
Vacation (New York, Florida, or cruise)

I think Florida would be fun because I've never gone there. I've never been a cruise, so that would be sweet too. I just don't even know what to do with all this money! Maybe I should put some in savings for a rainy day... What are your thoughts? Where are the best places to find good deals? Holler at your girl.
